A police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a colleague that was assaulted by a knife attacker has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a knife to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.
