Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Winning Performance at Athlos in NYC
The athlete recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the global championships recently, dominated an impressive win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably easier for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The women-only meet packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to award the victors with their tiaras.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The competition also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
