New England Match Longest Winning Streak From Tom Brady Years with Triumph Over New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five touchdowns during the current campaign
The New England Patriots tied their best victory streak since the Brady period as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three scores as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win extends the Patriots lead at the top of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to two victories and eight defeats
The Jets had scored first at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to conclude the Jets' initial series
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as the rookie ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone midway through the third period to make it 21 to 7
"It was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the victory
