Trump and Japanese Recently Appointed Prime Minister Exchange Praise and Vow to Strengthen ‘Remarkable’ Relationship

During a latest visit to Japan's capital, former US President Trump together with the Japanese new Prime Minister Takaichi exchanged friendly compliments and vowed to strengthen the already robust two-way relations.

Highlights from the Meeting

Trump commended Takaichi as a ‘exceptional’ figure and congratulated her on assuming the role of Japan's inaugural female prime minister. In their discussions at the capital's official venue, the former president expressed confidence that she would become one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of Japan.

The prime minister, identified as a close associate of late Japanese leader Shinzo Abe, praised his initiatives to resolve international conflicts and reportedly vowed to nominate Trump for the prestigious award.

Economic and Security Deals

The two governments announced a series of collaborative projects in areas such as power, artificial intelligence, and rare earths. Japan-based firms are considering funding of up to $400 billion in the US.

Additionally, Japan had earlier pledged $550bn in long-term US investments, loans, and guarantees as part of an agreement to secure relief from the former president's import duties.

Such actions are viewed as possibly easing any upcoming requests from the US side for Japan to boost its military expenditure. Takaichi addressed this by promising to fast-track proposals to increase defense spending to 2% of gross domestic product.
